A shitty day at work
10 hours not the four
I had planned.
Unexpected
and ugly were also
in attendance today.
A dirty martini for me.
A mojito for her.
Seven lovely oysters each
it was my birthday after all.
Steak au poivre perfectly cooked
spit between us.
A glass of perfect peppery zinfandel,
creamed spinach and mushroom saute.
Followed by an unexpected
creme brulee.
A single espresso for you;
a double for me.
A dram or two of grappa made the
coffee correct.
A kilometer or so's walk along the beach.
A poem from a friend,
This is not the poem I intended to write today.
My birthday evening though is complete.
--for my beloved and a friend.
